The Vulpine, the Lagomorph, & the Warriors.

September the the 16th, 1940, on the day before the axis military launched Operation Sea Lion, the Animal Kingdom was under attack from British militias, the local police, and even a detachment from the army.
In the chaos, which was dying down from attackers drawing out to defend southeastern England from axis troops, while the animals were being loaded onto vehicles, Mother Rabbit noticed that her daughter Tagalong was missing. She shouted at Nicholas to find her daughter, and nicholas replies with “I’m sorry, but you’ll have to wait a few minutes. I’m unwilling to put my troops through the danger of finding her quite yet”.

Maid Marian, who is pregnant at this time, and donning utilitarian brown clothes for battle, overhears the conversation, and breaks off from the group in search of Tagalong. Running around in the field, she spots tagalong, and runs over to pick her up. Right after picking up Tagalong, Marian is spotted by a an English soldier. Marian starts running, and the 19 year old English soldier, who grew up as a fox hunter before joining the armed forces of the British Empire, attaches a shining, razor-sharp bayonet to his Lee-Enfield No. 4 rifle, and pursues Marian and Tagalong.

Marian could run quickly, but she knew that she couldn’t hide, and her pregnancy does not help her in her running. With the soldier gaining on her and the child she was trying to protect, Marian reluctantly, but decisively, knows that she would have to put down her pursuer.
While running, Marian reaches for her satchel, which acts as the holster for the Cascadian M-96A pistol (a variant of the Mauser C-96 pistol in 7.62x25mm caliber) that she was issued, unsnaps the retention button, pulls out the weapon, and, which her opponent less than 5 feet behind her, swings around and fires at the pursuing soldier.

Marian then looks behind her, hoping that her opponent no longer poses a threat to either her or the child that she is trying to protect. But, against her hopes, she sees the soldier, now angry, trying to get into a sitting position, unable to stand after being shot in his hip. Marian stops, puts down Tagalong behind her, and points her weapon at the soldier. The soldier gets the first shot off, barely missing Marian’s head. Marian returns fire with two shots on the soldier’s torso, downing him. As Marian picks up Tagalong, she could see the soldier getting on his hands and knees, with a mixture of nothing but anger and pain in his eyes, wheezing and coughing blood. Then another soldier picks up his mortally wounded brother, whose last words were “P-please t-tell papa and mother (cough) that I-I love th-”.

The wounded soldier dies in his brother’s arms, and the living brother looks up at his now deceased little brother’s killer. The living soldier lets out a bellow of pain and anger, and then picks up his rifle, and fires off 10 pounds at Marian in anger with none of the bullets hitting their intended target. Then Nicolas comes in running with a fellow platoon member, with the former being armed with a Cascadian Browning Automatic Rifle and the latter armed with a Cascadian Thompson Submachine Gun. Both give covering fire for Marian and Tagalong, and escort them to safety with a convoy. At this time, with the axis powers were on the doorstep of the heart of the mighty British Empire, everyone was more worried about a rival country invading their homeland then a bunch of anthropomorphised animals and strange men in dull clothes, and thus, the animals and the platoon survivors were able to make it to a ship to Ireland.

6 years later.

The European Federation, from a deal that Cascadia had with England and the Central bankers, rises out of the ashes of the single bloodiest conflict in human history. Made up of many small states and as a result of many independence movements in parts of Europe, the EF becomes a puppet state of Cascadia for a short amount of time before adopting Cascadia’s constitution, joining the Nations Against the New World Order (NATNWO).
One of these states is Scotland, which is where the animals and the survivor’s of Nicolas’ platoon will start before taking buses to Willingdon, which is now an enclave of the European Federation and extraterritorial soil of Zootopia, to see what has changed since they have left, and visit the past.

One of the visitors was Maid Marian herself.
On the way to the Willingdon enclave, the convoy of buses and armed escorts that accompanied them temporality stopped at a fuel station to refuel the vehicles and do quick inspections on them and let everyone stretch their legs before finishing the trip.
While outside a bus, a rough looking man who appears to be in his mid 20’s and is smoking a cigar walked up to Marian, puffed some smoke, and said “We’ll see each other again soon”. That made Marian worried, and a Peace Officer stiffened up and held his submachinegun more tightly as Marian reentered a bus.

Later that day, the convoy finally arrives at the Willingdon enclave. At this point, the Willingdon enclave had a heavily armed Cascadia Federal Police platoon stationed at the there to enforce the European Federation’s deal on keeping the part of Willingdon that was once a part of both Animal Farm and the Animal Kingdom.
But this did not mean that there weren't signs of healing wounds. In fact, there was a “peace reunion”, held to bring together both sides of the Battle for the Animal Kingdom.

While walking on the perimeter, a black car pulls up, and a man dressed in his British army uniform steps out. It was the rough looking Englishman from earlier!

The man, who reveals himself to be a soldier and war veteran, walks up to Marian. He says,
“My name’s George. Exactly six years ago, you killed my brother. But now, I forgive you”.
Shocked and puzzled, Marian aske,d “Why, thank you, but why?”.
George replies “Back them I was terribly ignorant, but now, I’m more informed. Me and my brother were very close together since we were born. Every single experience one of us went through, the other as well. One of the first actual sentences that I actually said to my parents was ‘I promise to protect Charlie for as long as we live’. We were stupid farmboys, bored with farm life and at eighteen, we signed up for the army. But then, he died, and I became so depressed that, for the rest of the war, I was barely able to do my basic required tasks as a soldier, and drank too much off duty and smoked a lot on duty to cope with my borderline suicidal depression. Now, over the past few months since leaving the armed forces, I started to truly read, and I really remember the types of things that the allies were doing to civilians. I thought I was protecting my country, but in reality, I was helping maintain an empire. I know that the axis powers did terrible things, but so did the allies, and now I’m wondering ‘When will we hold our leaders to the same standard as theirs’? Then I found out: the allies won the war, and thus, get to tell their side of the story. Thanks to the central bankers, they’ll funnel money to keep governments favorable to them strong. And all of this means that there is some silver lining to my brother’s death; I was forced to wake up out of my greater Britain fantasy.”

Later on, George became a libertarian anti-war activist.

Trivia:
. In real life, red fox parents are often great parents as far as the animal kingdom does, and vixens have been known to take care of kits from other vixens.

. It is true that the allied powers have committed war crimes during World War 2 (www.ancreport.com/report/sutt-jhally-will-not-coming-la-letter/
